line of duty death |

 |
December
29th, 2009
-
The members of the Silver Creek Fire Department with great
sorrow, convey our deepest sympathies to the family &
friends of 33 year old firefighter Steve "Peanut" Koeser & the St. Anna Fire Dept.
Firefighter Koeser was
fatally injured during an explosion while battling a fire
at Bremer Manufacturing.
St. Anna firefighters were extinguishing the dumpster & a
large drum when the explosion occurred. Fire Investigators
believe metal byproducts in waste bins, aluminum chips &
impurities from furnaces, may have reacted to the water
being used by the firefighters & sparked the explosion.
Eight other firefighters were hurt, including 28 year old
firefighter Brad Woelfel, who remains hospitalized in fair
condition.
Please keep the family & friends
of Firefighter Koeser, Firefighter Woelfel, & the St. Anna
Fire
Dept. in your prayers as they endure this unspeakable
loss.
Funeral mass will be
held on Jan. 2nd at 2:00pm at the St. Ann Catholic Church.
Burial will take place in the church cemetery. In lieu of
flowers a memorial has been established in his name to be
used for future needs of his daughter, Lexus |

October 24th, 2009
Fire Chiefs from around the county ascended on
Silver Creek to attend the annual Sheboygan County Fire
Chief's banquet. After a hearty meal, attendees
were privileged to listen to Fire Chief Dan Mayer of the
Cudahy Fire Department. Chief Mayer played a
critical role during the recent Patrick Cudahy
meatpacking facility fire. The chiefs were particularly
interested in the role MABAS played at the Cudahy Fire
as Sheboygan County will be utilizing the MABAS system

Lawnmower Safety |
|
 |
May 17th, 2009
- The trees are budding, the birds are chirping, the grass is
green, and you're more stuffed up than a Thanksgiving turkey.
That can only mean one thing....SPRING IS FINALLY HERE!!
As you dust off your mower for the year, be sure to remember the
fire hazards associated with refueling your mower. The
Consumer Product Safety Commission logs thousands of occurrences
each year relating to property damage and personal injuries in
fire related lawn mower incidents. Here are a few things
to remember...
- Never smoke when
refueling the gas tank.
- Store gasoline in a
UL, FM, or CSA rated container.
- Never keep gasoline in
your home or fill gas tank indoors.
- Never store the machine or
fuel container where there is an open flame, spark, or pilot
light such as a water heater or
other appliances.
- Never fill containers inside
a vehicle or on a truck bed with a plastic bed liner. Always
place containers on the ground away from your vehicle before
filling.
- Wipe up gasoline spills
immediately and do not attempt to start the engine but move
the machine away from the area of spillage and avoid creating
any source of ignition until fuel vapors have dissipated.
- Never over-fill the fuel
tank. Replace gas cap and tighten securely.
- Never remove the gas cap or
add fuel with the engine running. Allow the engine to cool,
before refueling.
Please review your lawn mower operator's manual for additional
safety considerations. Contact the product manufacturer
for any additional questions. The Silver Creek Fire
Department wishes everyone a safe mowing season! |

50th Chicken Barbecue |
|
 |
May 3rd, 2009
- Today marked the golden anniversary for the Silver Creek Fire
Department Chicken Barbecue. Well over 1,000 chicken
dinners were served throughout the day. A great deal of
thanks is owed to the many people who supported our Chicken
Barbecue from the donations ranging from delicious desserts to
corn to milk, the many hard working volunteers, and to the
fabulous community members who continually make each and every
fire department fundraiser a success year after year. Your
support during hard economic times is a testament of what a
great community is made of. We look forward to 50 more
years of success!! |
